HOWARD HIMES

ANDERSON, Ind. - Howard Himes, 73 years old, Anderson, retired assistant fire chief here, died in St. John's Hospital. Mr. Himes retired from the department three years ago and later was employed by the city health department. He was a 20-year veteran of the fire department. Born in Ladoga, he was a member of the First Baptist Church and American Legion in Anderson and was past worshipful master of the Ladoga Masonic Lodge. Himes became a member of Byron Cox Post 72 of the American Legion at Crawfordsville soon after World War I. He later organized the Legion post at Ladoga and became its first commander. He also served for one time as 6th District Legion commander. Survivors include the widow, Mrs. Evelyn Himes; a son, a stepson, two stepdaughters, five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday in Baker Brothers Funeral Home here, with burial in Memorial Park Cemetery. - jlr
